So basically the immune system again.

This is what scientists believe that happens: the immune system has evolved to deal with many things, parasites included, but in many countries where parasites are not a problem, where children are vaccinated, bathed, pampered and drink chlorinated or mineral water, the risk of getting parasites is basically none. So what does the immune system do in the meantime? It's boared to death.

It also seems to happen that polen grains and parasites might share some characteristics, maybe to a protein level (? just guessing here, don't cite me in this one) or some other compound, because your immune system attacks the pollen grains as if they were going to hurt you, they really don't know that they are not parasites. Your antibodies will produce substances to take care of them and cause you irritation and discomfort, causing you to have allergies. Don't you love this weird fellows?
