Artist's Comments

This is another mock cover I made for an imaginary novel. This time more fantasy like. What do you think? Your critiques and comments help me to improve, so feel free to be honest.

nice ^^ i like it, though if you're looking for some criticism, the only thing i can think of is maybe doing something with the text, either to fade the smaller stuff in, or make it less plain somehow. *shrugs*
good though, and thanks for using my stock!

I really like the cover art and composition, Coty; but there are two issues with the text. Small stuff first. "Lays" may be the correct word, grammatically, but, "lies", with all its implied connotations, would be the word of choice to draw the potential reader to the book.

The big stuff is the typeface for "Shapeshifter". It doesn't seem to work the way it should. I've no idea what fonts you have available. I've been collecting odd ones for years and have three that might work well with this. they are Monotype Corsiva, Swordsman, and Templar. They may be going by other names these days as fonts do. I'd be happy to do up the "title" in these fonts to show you what I mean, either here or via email.

The text is bothering me too. I will play with it.
Thanks!

Thanks Kate! I have the default fonts, I need to get myself to find more fonts, but I have not put the time into it. If you have a good link you can suggest I'll take it!
I would be very happy to see your suggestions! Thanks!

Happy to. I ended up using Magik, Innkeeper, and Swordsman, because those are accessible by Photoshop CS2. Shall I post them in my scraps here, or send them directly to you, with the fonts attached? Answer in a note, if you prefer.

Coty, let's see if this works. If it does, you should see side by side mock covers. [link]

Let me know what you think.

Oh, wow, Kate, what a difference! Thank you so much! I really like the first and third one, and the yellow rim adds a great touch. I have so much to learn! :D
Thanks a lot!

Sorry it took me so long to answer. I've been grading all day and still have a huge pile of notebooks to go through.

That's pretty much what I figured you'd be doing about now. (A result of all those teachers in my family) :D
